Square-Enix, according to its official Final Fantasy XIV page is set to break the fourth wall as the heroine from the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy Lighting is set to appear in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
FATEs, or Full Active Time Events, are brief events that appear throughout FF XIV’s world of Eorzea, and Lightning is set to appear in one specific FATE in November. Details as to where on Eorzea Lightning’s FATE will be have yet to be announced, but this special FATE will begin showing up exactly one week before Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns launches in Japan, which is November 14. This is also right around when the PlayStation 4 releases, so surely some people will have to manage their time accordingly with FF XIV and the PS4, since the PS4 version of FF XIV will not hit the next-gen console until next year.
Traditionally in MMOs, events don’t last for a long time, so make sure to be good and ready (and probably level 50) by November, or you may miss out on some exclusive gear.
