Telltale Games, the creators of the The Walking Dead series, is teaming up with Minecraft developer Mojang to create a new narrative-driven video game based on the popular sandbox construction game.
Minecraft: Story Mode will be released as episodic content, with Episode One due to launch in 2015. In an official statement, Mojang said that it’s “not intending on creating an “official” story or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail. It will be a cool game”.
"Partnering with Mojang is a dream come true for us as game makers and as storytellers," said Kevin Bruner, President and Co-Founder of Telltale Games. "Minecraft is a world of infinite possibility and imagination. Working with the Mojang team on our own unique, story-driven interpretation of their fascinating universe is a tremendous honor. We simply cannot wait for fans across the world to take off with us on this new adventure."
No further details were revealed other than confirmation that Minecraft: Story Mode will be available on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, ioS and Android.
