Fresh details on the hotly anticipated Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End have trickled onto the web today, following the action-adventure sequel’s appearance in the latest issue of Game Informer (via Gematsu).
Naughty Dog’s latest Uncharted outing will take place three years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Here, we find Nate and Elena together living a seemingly happy life, only for Drake’s long-lost brother, Sam, to rock up and entice his sibling back into the life of a fortune hunter.
Sam will be an AI-controlled ally similar to Ellie in The Last of Us, and will accompany his younger brother throughout his adventure. Apparently, Sam is envious of Nate’s abilities, causing tension between the pair during the game.
Naughty Dog has been working on Uncharted 4 since development of its predecessor wrapped in late 2011, though it was only after work on The Last of Us was completed that production kicked into overdrive.
As previously speculated, the duo will be heading to Madagascar on the hunt for a legendary colony known as the Libertalia, which was founded by pirates. Locations will range from urban to snowy environments outside of the island setting we saw in the gameplay reveal, and Drake and Sam will face off against two fellow treasure seekers: Rafe and Nadine.
Players will be able to make use of Drake’s enhanced abilities to hunt for artifacts, some of which include clues to finding additional treasures. Environments are also far more open than previous Uncharted games.
Finally, those of you who enjoyed the online component of past Uncharted games will be pleased to learn that multiplayer will return for A Thief’s End.
Uncharted 4 is scheduled to ship exclusively for PlayStation 4 in late 2015.
