The developer behind Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has said that it is aiming to push the action-adventure sequel as far as possible in terms of visuals.
Speaking with CG Master Academy (via AOTF), Naughty Dog’s chief character artist, Frank Tzeng, said that video games are quickly approaching a level of quality that is “really close to film right now.”
Moving on to the hotly anticipated Uncharted 4–a game which has already been labelled one of the best-looking PlayStation 4 titles to date—Tzeng said that the in-game Nathan Drake looks like “a film character to me.”
He went on say that Sony’s latest home console allows the studio to drop more polygons on screen in comparison to the PS3. As a result, Naughty Dog was able to implement more “high res maps” and include more details and expressions on the game’s characters.
Tzeng concluded by saying that the video games industry is only a few years away from offering film-like visuals.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is due out later this year. Naughty Dog recently admitted that getting the sequel to run at 60fps would be a tough job. Check out the latest screenshots here.
