Bungie not only had to justify making the next expansion for hit MMO shooter an incredibly steep £40 (needless to say it was unjustifiable), now also got taken to task after it became apparent that certain new emotes for the game can only be purchased by literally re-buying the game in the form of the re-packaged Legendary Edition.
That itself costs a further £54.99 for the base game and the two DLC packs already available. The emotes in question cannot be bought outside of this edition of the game, leaving fans disgruntled at being put second to potential new customers again.
So far, Destiny has had two £19.99 DLC packs that arguably featured little value for money and by charging a further £40 for September’s expansion; The Taken King, the game will have cost dedicated players a whopping £120 at least within the first year of release. So you can see why this latest development feels like a slap in the face.
Luke Smith; The Taken King’s Creative Director, confirmed the emotes would currently not be available to purchase outside of buying the Legendary Edition during a rather cringeworthy interview with Eurogamer. He did also assure fans that feedback was always being taken on board and stressed they would get ”something better”, but could not yet comment on what exactly that was.
