The developer behind Shenmue III has launched a ‘Slacker Backer‘ campaign for the hotly anticipated action-RPG sequel, allowing gamers another chance to donate money to the project.
Those of you who were not able to put any money towards Shenmue III’s original Kickstarter campaign can now do so. Likewise, if you already did donate but fancy raising your pledge can now do so, as most of the rewards are now back in stock.
“This additional campaign comes as a response to all of the requests we have received asking for another opportunity to participate in the making of Shenmue III because either of a lack of payment options on Kickstarter, or just not having a chance to pledge before the campaign ended,” said YsNet.
Shenmue III is due out on PlayStation 4 and PC in December 2017. The game was announced at Sony’s much-loved E3 2015 press conference, where creator Yu Suzuki took to the stage to count down the Kickstarter campaign.
The game went on to become the fastest video game project on Kickstarter to hit the $1 million mark, and went on to raise over $6.3 million. While the game is in the very early stages of development, it has already been confirmed that original voice actor, Cory Marshall, will reprise his role as Ryo Hazuki in the sequel.
Shenmue was originally released on the Dreamcast in Japan back in 1999, and made the transition to western shores the following year. A sequel arrived in 2001 in Japan and Europe, though in the U.S. the game was only available on the Xbox following the Dreamcast’s demise.
Interestingly, the announcement of Shenmue III sent sales of pre-owned Dreamcast consoles through the roof.
