Star Wars Battlefront’s final resolution has finally be confirmed on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and it’s the same as the beta performance: 900p on Sony’s console and 720p on Microsoft’s machine.
The news comes in light of Digital Foundry’s analysis of DICE’s sci-fi shooter, which found that the game runs at a stable 60fps on PS4. However, it appears no improvements were made to the game’s resolution, which clocked in at 900p on Sony’s platform during the successful beta phase. Not that it seemed to matter to gamers; the beta attracted a whopping nine million gamers when it went live for a weekend period in October.
Interestingly, GamingBolt reports that Star Wars Battlefront’s split-screen mode is capped at 30fps, though it can dip "into the upper 20s" on occasion. However, the flip side is that this boosts the resolution on both formats to 1080p, "offering each player a 1920×540 view of the game." As previously reported, Battlefront is powered by the Frostbite engine, the same tech that was used in Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline.
Star Wars Battlefront is out now in the U.S. for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, and hits European territories this Friday. Publisher Electronic Arts confirmed this week that the first expansion for the sci-fi shooter will drop in early 2016, following up from its info drop on the $49.99 Season Pass—the question is, however, is it worth your money? You decide. As ever with the launch of an online-focused title, Battlefront has experienced some teething issues on PS4, which Sony has already started investigating. It also looks like we’ll get a Battlefront 2 at some point down the line, with EA committing to a numerous of new Star Wars-based projects from its deal with Disney.
Star Wars Battlefront eschews the single-player campaign seen in previous instalments of the popular franchise, and focuses on large-scale multiplayer battles. Gamers will find themselves taking on the role of a Rebel or Imperial trooper as they battle it out on a number of iconic locations throughout the Star Wars universe, such as Tatooine, Sullust, Endor, and Hoth. In addition, you can also take control of legendary ‘Hero and Villain’ characters from the series, including Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Emperor Palpatine, and Han Solo.
