The developer behind Final Fantasy XV has shared another status update on the hotly anticipated JRPG via the game’s official forum, confirming the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One title is now fully playable from start to finish.
Not only that, but the first half of the game is now complete and on par with a quality that will mirror the final product.
“We’re at the point where we can play the game in its entirety from start to finish,” said a member of the development team. "From this, everyone on the development team can get an overall view on the game. The first half of the game is finished with the quality of a final product, and you get the sense you’re playing it in its final form.”
As a result of the milestone, Square Enix is now polishing various elements within the game, tweaking the gameplay, and looking to complete development to the highest standard possible.
Final Fantasy XV was announced at Sony’s E3 2013 press conference and has been confirmed for a worldwide release at some point in 2016. Square Enix recently confirmed that a new demo is in the works, and hinted that airship combat could make its way into the game as post-launch content. New combat mechanics are also being implemented into this latest entry in the venerable RPG series, allowing players to target specific parts of an opponent’s anatomy. Square Enix is expected to drop a heap of new info on Final Fantasy XV in March 2016. For now, check out the latest screenshots to see how the game is shaping up.
Development of Final Fantasy XV didn’t start until around three years ago, at which point its previous incarnation, the PS3-exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII, was around 25 percent complete. Due to the shift in concept, much of the content seen in Versus XIII has been removed or tweake, although some familiar aspects are still in place. Of the changes made to the project, Square Enix has said that the character design is more grounded in reality for FFXV than its previous build.
