PlayStation VR has seen a slight performance upgrade

According to a report on VRFocus, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) showcased an upgraded version of its upcoming PlayStation VR gaming headset during the annual PlayStation Experience last weekend.

The site, which cites a source close to the virtual reality device’s development, claims that the headset’s output has improved since Sony last showcased it at Paris Games Week in October. While not a substantial upgrade, the improvements made by Sony have enhanced its display of black colours.

It doesn’t sound like the console maker is stopping there, either. The site goes on to note that Sony is still making additional optimisations to the device before PS VR enters mass production, so we are likely to see some other small improvements between now and the next time we see it.

Sony has confirmed that PlayStation VR will launch at some point in the first quarter of 2016, although a price has yet to be determined. However, the electronics giant has indicated the device will be positioned at a similar cost to a new games console. Sony confirmed at Paris Games Week that a number of upcoming titles will support PlayStation VR, including Tekken 7, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Gran Turismo Sport, Dreams, and many more. In fact, it’s been reported that the device has over 50 games currently in development from various first and third-party studios.

The headset was showcased at PSX 2015 over the weekend, where it was revealed that Ace Combat 7, the latest instalment in Bandai Namco’s venerable flight combat series, will support PS VR. Sony has recommended that developers aim for around 90fps when developing games for the device, which they claim offers the best virtual reality gaming experience for players.
