Sony will release the PlayStation 4.5 this holiday season priced at $399.99, according to a new video published by Rooster Teeth’s multimedia channel, The Know.
The site also claims that developers are already working on new titles for the revamped hardware, which is reported to offer a significant performance upgrade over the existing PS4 model.
Apparently, games that are developed with PS4.5 in mind will still work on your original console, albeit with a noticeable change in performance. The rumor follows on from extensive reports on PS4.5 that surfaced, where Eurogamer claimed via independent sources that Sony’s R&D lab is already prototyping the device.
Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter also weighed in on the subject, believing the new hardware revision will be a PlayStation VR-specific update.
Sony announced earlier this year that PS4 has sold nearly 36 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2013. Publishing giant Electronic Arts recently put combined sales of Sony and Microsoft’s current-generation systems at 60 million units.
Sony has quite a significant year ahead of it, with PS VR recently being confirmed for an October 2016 release, priced at $399/£349. In addition, the console maker also has a number of exclusive titles on the horizon, including Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Gran Turismo Sport.
