Sony has said that the release date for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has remains on track for May 10 in light of a shipment of copies being stolen while in transit.
The format holder insisted that reports of the U.K. street date for the game being broken by retailers are incorrect, as it hasn’t shipped any copies of the Naughty Dog title to market.
"We are doing everything in our power to assist the police in their ongoing criminal investigation," a PlayStation representative commented. "To be clear, we have yet to ship any stock of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End to retail and so any suggestion that UK retailers have broken the official street date is not correct.
"The official release date of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End remains May 10th."
Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida confirmed earlier today that copies of the PlayStation 4-exclusive title had been stolen, warning gamers to be aware of possible spoilers flooding the web as a result.
Yesterday, it emerged that a few gamers in the U.K. had already got their hands on Uncharted 4, with one customer having bought a copy in his local CEX store. In addition, Amazon had begun shipped copies to players in North America and Germany.
The investigation into the theft of Uncharted 4 copies remains ongoing.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sees Nathan Drake reuniting with his long-lost brother, Sam, who was previously thought to have died some years ago. The lure of fortune remains too much for the pair, and they soon find themselves off on a globetrotting adventure in search of a legendary pirate treasure.
Naughty Dog has confirmed that this will be Nate’s final chapter and also the California-based studio’s last Uncharted title. However, it hasn’t ruled out the chance of another studio taking over the development reins later down the line.
