From Software has confirmed in a new recruitment video that its new IP will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, PC and Xbox One in 2017.
Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed recently that he’s bringing the franchise to a close with the third instalment, which was released earlier this month. While not ruling out any future Souls games 100 percent, he said that the focus now is to create new experiences.
Quite what Miyazaki-san has up his sleeves next is anyone’s guess, although considering he’s been steadily pumping out Souls titles since 2009, one might say it’s been a long time coming.
There was Bloodborne too of course, a PS4-exclusive that shares many similarities with its Souls stablemate, although even that doesn’t look likely to receive a follow-up.
Demon’s Souls kicked started From Software’s unique marriage of brutal hack-’n-slash action and RPG for the PS3 seven years ago, attracting a cult following. The series would later garner mainstream attention with the release of Dark Souls and Dark Souls II in 2011 and 2014, respectively.
To date the Souls franchise has sold over eight million copies worldwide.
