Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 targeting 30fps/1080p

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration is targeting 30fps/1080p on PlayStation 4, publisher Square Enix has revealed.

Speaking in a statement issued to VideoGamer, the company explained that it is "still optimizing the game, and our target is 1080p at a minimum of 30fps. Anything beyond that is a bonus."

For comparison, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for PS4 ran at 60fps, which is twice the frame rate of the Xbox One version of the game. This particular edition of Tomb Raider was handled by Nixxus, the same studio that Crystal Dynamics is teaming up with for Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4.

Due out on October 11, 2016, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration will feature a host of additional content on PS4, including a brand new single-player mission known as Blood Ties, which is compatible with PlayStation VR.

In addition, the game also includes a host of new costumes, such as five outfits that pay tribute to the classic Tomb Raider games including a 1996 model of Lara Croft. All previously released DLC is also included in the package, as well as an Endurance co-op mode.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was originally released on the Xbox One in holiday 2015, and has sold over one million copies worldwide. The game is a sequel to the origins story established in the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, and sees Lara Croft on the hunt for a mythical artefact in a perilous mountain climate.

Tomb Raider celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, having first launched on the Sega Saturn back in fall 1996. The game quickly saw a PlayStation release the same year, with the franchise becoming synonymous with Sony’s grey box of tricks for the remainder of the 1990s.

The series has sold over 45 million units to date.
