Metal Gear Survive announced, features co-op action in alternate timeline

Konami has unveiled a brand new Metal Gear Solid V experience known as Metal Gear Survive, a co-op action game set within an alternate timeline.

Due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in 2017, Metal Gear Survive is set following the events of Ground Zeroes, and sees players thrust into a mysterious wormhole and stranded in a distorted, desert-like landscape inhabited by hostile creatures.

Metal Gear Survive brings co-op twist

Taking the established Metal Gear stealth formula and putting a unique co-op twist on the proceedings, Metal Gear Survive combines stealth and teamwork as up to four players combat enemies with a host of new weapons within an engaging online multiplayer environment.

"We are delighted to announce another exciting addition to the METAL GEAR franchise,” said Tomotada Tashiro, European President for Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. "METAL GEAR SURVIVE will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multi-player experience.”

Metal Gear Survive is noted for being the first entry in the venerated stealth-action franchise to be made following Hideo Kojima’s departure from Konami. Kojima-san is now working at his own independent studio on the PS4-exclusive Death Stranding.

In related news, it seems that Konami is also poised to announced Metal Gear Solid V Definitive Ex, which is believed to combine both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain in one content-filled package.

Konami recently announced that the Metal Gear franchise has sold nearly 50 million copies worldwide.
