New details on Red Dead Redemption 2 have surfaced via an alleged Rockstar Games insider, who claims the upcoming Wild West sequel will star Jack Marston, the son of the protagonist from the original game.
The leak goes on to say that the highly anticipated open-world title will be set three years after the first Red Dead Redemption, and sees Jack piecing together “some of the things he finds in his father’s journal after he dies.” His efforts ultimately lead him to meet up with a few of John’s buddies, who reveal a number of secrets about the legendary cowboy’s past.
Furthermore, Red Dead Redemption 2 story will reportedly include a number of flashback sequences, one of which depicts Dutch’s gang, as seen in the reveal trailer. It is speculated that some of the group may in fact be playable in these sequences, which ties in with rumors that the game will include multiple playable characters.
In terms of locations, the insider revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature at least two large-scale towns to explore, with the world further supplemented by “little places scattered” across the game map. In fact, it’s said that Rockstar’s latest game will be bigger than Grand Theft Auto 5; an impressive feat considering the crime opus is certainly no slouch when it comes to its own game world. The insider also claims that Red Dead 2 will include heists, allowing gamers to plunder banks, trains, and saloons, with kidnapping also featuring.
On the multiplayer side of things, it is believed that the sequel will be “very economy driven,” allowing players to trade and sell each other items. Exotic mounts will be featured to boot, such as zebras and buffalo, and gamers can also gain the ability to kit out their wagons with gatling guns and other deadly weapons.
Obviously, this info should be taken with a pinch of salt, although hopefully we’ll hear more about the game at E3 next week. We’ve still got a while to go before the game is out, as Rockstar Games announced last month that it had delayed the Red Dead Redemption 2 release date to spring 2018. Despite this, publisher Take-Two says it doesn’t matter when the game comes out—you’ll buy it regardless.
