New details on the Far Cry 5 co-op mode have surfaced following the game’s showing at E3 2017 last month, and it’s not exactly good news for those of you looking forward to teaming up with a buddy in the upcoming open-world sequel.
According to a new report, only one player during co-op will be able to actually make any progress in the game’s story, which hasn’t gone down well with gamers on Reddit and other forums. The news itself comes from a translation of a video on German website Gamestar, who were given the information at E3.
Ubisoft hasn’t actually commented on this outright, although it seems likely that only the host of a Far Cry 5 co-op session will be able to keep their progress in the game. Hopefully the publisher will clarify the nature of the game’s co-op mode at some point, as we can’t imagine this decision will sit very well with players.

Far Cry 5 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on February 27, 2018. The game takes place in the United States for the first time in the series, specifically in the fictional Home County, Montana, which is under rule by the tyrannical Joseph Seed.
Players control a sheriff’s deputy who has been dispatched to the region to bring Seed to justice. The game world is made up of numerous terrains, including farm lands, forests, and fields, with gamers able to wield a diverse range of weapons and even tame wild animals. In addition, you can take advantage of the Guns for Hire/Fang for Hire system, which allows you to gain some help from mercenaries and local wildlife, respectively.
