Sony Europe has conceded that the firm is taking a gamble releasing PS3 thriller Heavy Rain, though added the fact the company has absolute faith in developer Quantic Dream has taken the sting out of any pre-release jitters.
Speaking with the folks at CVG, producer manager Lucy Duncan commented: “Being Sony, I suppose we have a little more luxury to take a gamble on more original and innovative IP – and Heavy Rain definitely fits that category.”
“I suppose the risk is lessened if you have faith in the team behind the game and David [Cage] and Guillaume [de Fondaumiere] and the guys at Quantic Dreams have really impressed, not just in terms of their back catalogue – Farenheit – but also in terms of the tech demos they showed in the run up to Heavy Rain.”
Going by early reviews that have started trickling in, it looks like the gamble has paid off, with the game scoring an impressive 9/10 from OPM. Heavy Rain releases on February 23.
