Another game studio cuts jobs; layoffs continue

Last year saw some major cuts across countless game studios, and it looks like the start of 2010 carries over the harsh reality that the economy is still in trouble and the video game industry is not immune. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has made cuts at three studios, including Monolith Productions, Surreal Software, and Snowblind Studios.

Gamasutra has obtained a statement from Warner Bros. The statement puts the layoffs quite bluntly, “Unfortunately, we had a few too many resources in certain functions and some positions were eliminated in the process. Our plan is to continually review staffing needs and as future projects evolve we would expect to see the studios grow.”

Snowblind was acquired by Warner Bros. last year. The publisher also acquired Surreal and Midway Games Chicago from Midway Games. Monolith is best known for the FEAR series, while Snowblind Studios and Surreal Software are better known for their work developed PlayStation 2 games.
