Assassin’s Creed III developer Ubisoft Montreal has moved to dispel the notion that the studio is injecting pro-American/anti-British sentiments in its upcoming open-world historical adventure game.
Those of you who have been watching the latest trailers and footage on the sequel will no doubt have clocked protagonist Connor getting stab-happy with an alarming number of Redcoats. Oh, and perhaps the odd grizzly bear.
However, ACIII scriptwriter Corey May has insisted the game’s story is “not meant to be loyalists versus patriots.”
"It’s assassins versus Templars. There’s a revolution going on and Connor will experience all facets of it. It’s not as simple as Templars backing the crown and assassins backing the patriots, it’s really two factions at war against the backdrop of another war. I have nothing against the Brits,” he told CVG.
"It occurs against the backdrop of the Revolutionary war. And to be even more evasive, everyone back then was a Brit, this was not Americans against British – this was a British civil war.”
Assassin’s Creed III is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October 2012. The game features the same free-running open-world gameplay that popularised the franchise that began in 2007, while adding a plethora of new mechanics.
Now, as Connor, gamers can partake in epic Naval battles on the high-seas, hunt and kill wildlife to sell their pelts, and utilize all-new combat moves to take down your foes more quickly and efficiently than ever before.
