Ubisoft has revealed the official title for the next big Assassin’s Creed title – Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the official name for what we’ve come to know as Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, the first AC game to bring the series to Japan.
The full reveal for the game is set to arrive this coming Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm BST. For now, all we have is the title, and a promotional shot of a display.
For long-time Assassin’s Creed fans, who’ve been asking Ubisoft to bring the series to Japan ever since the beginning, it’s arguable that this is the most anticipated game in the series history.

Earlier this year Ubisoft confirmed that we’d see Assassin’s Creed Shadows by the end of the company’s 2025 fiscal year, which gives us until March 2025.
It’s quite the time gap to cross, but with the reveal now days away, it could be that Shadows will be Ubisoft’s major fall title for the end of 2024.
After Mirage, this will be the next mainline game in Ubisoft’s long-running franchise. It’ll be interesting to see which version of Assassin’s Creed game it ends up being – giant open-world RPG, or smaller, linear adventure in a more focused map.
Or some new balance of both. Mirage’s success critically and commercially might have been the message to Ubisoft that players would be looking for something more in-tune with that game’s scale, versus the bloat they’ve been criticized of with Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla.
Still, those games have proven that there’s a community of players who do love these vast open-worlds in the Assassin’s Creed universe. It’ll be interesting to see where Shadows lands.
Another thing to remember is that this will mark the beginning of Assassin’s Creed Infinity. All together it seems like there’s a lot riding on Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
