Assassin’s Creed Codename Red might not have an official title yet, but it’s officially the most highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed title yet.
Since the series started to really gain traction, all fans have been asking is for Ubisoft to set the next game in Japan. Codename Red is finally that game, and according to Ubisoft it’ll arrive sometime before the end of March 2025.
In the publisher’s latest financial reports, it pinned the release window to be before the end of its fiscal year 2025. If that remains the case, it will arrive no later than the end of March next year.
The news came directly from Ubisoft chief executive officer Yves Guillemot, who also re-affirmed that Star Wars Outlaws will arrive sometime before the end of 2024.
“Moving forward, we’re gearing up for a very promising line-up for fiscal year 2025, including the upcoming release of Star Wars Outlaws in 2024, which should be a major milestone in the video game industry, especially given the undeniable appeal of this legendary franchise that will be coming, for the first time to the Open World territory, as well as Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, set in the long-awaited feudal Japan universe.
We look forward to revealing the full extent of the creative capabilities of Ubisoft’s teams, who are working hard to make these games a success that will live up to gamers’ expectations.”
Players have surely had high expectations, but doubtfully anyone thought feudal Japan was to become an entire “universe” in this new game. A time-period in the history of the Assassin’s Creed version of Earth, maybe.
Guillemot’s odd word choice aside, Codename Red has, perhaps unfairly so, such high expectations sitting on its shoulders. Feudal Japan has been the setting fans have never stopped asking for.
And after the success of Mirage being a smaller, more focused setting versus Valhalla’s giant open-world, it’ll be interesting to see if Codename Red strikes a balance between those two.
