Ubisoft has revealed that the creative director on Assassin’s Creed Hexe, Clint Hocking, has departed the company following last month’s news of a major shakeup for the French publisher.
Speaking in a statement to VGC, a spokesperson for Ubisoft confirmed that development of Assassin’s Creed Hexe is continuing following Hocking’s departure, although there’s still no release date in sight.
We sincerely thank [Clint] for his vision, creative contributions, and dedication over the years, and we wish him the very best in his next chapter. Development on Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe continues with a seasoned team. The game will deliver something distinctive within the Assassin’s Creed franchise. We look forward to sharing more information in the future.
Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Hexe four years ago alongside Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the latter of which arrived back in March 2025.
Not much is known about Assassin’s Creed Hexe yet, although a report by Insider Gaming a few years back stated that the game will be the ‘darkest’ entry in the long-running franchise to date. Reportedly, the game will include a female protagonist by the name of Elsa, with the action taking place towards the end of the Holy Roman Empire during the European Witch Trials.
The Assassin’s Creed franchise is now being overseen by Vantage Studios, the new Tencent-backed Subsidiary at Ubisoft, and is being fronted by staff who previously worked on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
