Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s narrative director, Darby McDevitt, has shed a little more light on the game’s protagonist – the Viking warrior Eivor – assuring players that the team have mapped out a character with a ‘coherent personality.’
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Eivor Details
Eivor of course features gender options, allowing you to play the character as a male or female. To that end, McDevitt confirmed the that the studio decided to “write a coherent character with a coherent personality. We talked a lot about how different role-playing games approach this, and there’s no wrong answer, but there are answers that take you in one direction or another.”

He went on to describe that one option is making a character that is a “blank slate” that is shaped by the decisions you make during the game. The second is having a character with a ‘coherent personality’ and the answers that they give during dialogue options still fall ‘within a spectrum’
This is the direction that the Valhalla team have taken with Eivor:
We want our character, Eivor, to exist within a coherent space and have a coherent personality, so that by the time you get to the end of our game, no matter which little paths you have taken through our game, you always feel that Eivor was Eivor. So, whether you choose male or female, and both options are valid in our game, you always feel that Eivor was coherent and complete.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is scheduled for release this holiday season on PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One. Ubisoft previously said that the game will feature ‘deep storytelling‘ beyond the main campaign.
