Today Warner Home Entertainment President Kevin Tsujihara confirmed the first Warner Bros. Profile 1.1 Blu-ray movies are underway. Profile 1.1 on Blu-ray is the Picture in Picture (PiP), also called Bonus View, technology.
Several studios such as Fox and Sony Pictures have already introduced some Bonus View enabled movies, such as the latest Resident Evil on Blu-ray. Warner Bros. hasn’t release any Bonus View enabled Blu-ray movies yet. However, they did actually release several HD-DVD’s with the PiP feature enabled. These movies, such as the Matrix Trilogy and Batman Begins, were therefore released exclusively on HD-DVD.
Tsujihara stated that "Warner Bros. held off releasing Profile 1.1 hi-Def movies on Blu-ray because they wanted to be able to have the full interactivity. At this point in time, Warner Bros. is still working out all the kinks with the technology, but they [PiP enabled movies] will be released soon."
Confirming they are working out all the kinks, Tsujihara also confirmed Batman Begins and the Matrix are definitely being prepared to be released on Blu-ray. And they will be released soon!
We will keep you up to date on any Blu-ray developments.
