Battlefield 5 due in 2016, says analyst firm

Battlefield 5 is in development and is being targeted for a 2016 release, according to analyst group Stern Agee.

The reason for the launch window, according to the firm (via IGN), is due to the fact Battlefield: Hardline has been pushed into early 2015. Furthermore, publisher Electronic Arts is said to be “feeling very confident” over next year’s hotly anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront.

The analyst firm also believes that EA wants to avoid a repeat of Battlefield 4’s botched launch, and as such is eager to have more time spent on the sequel.

Typically, Battlefield titles undergo a two-year development cycle, and with DICE Sweden busy chiselling away on Battlefront, it’ll likely fall to DICE Los Angeles to produce the next iteration in the popular military shooter franchise.

Battlefield Hardline was originally due to appear in fall 2014 but was delayed a few months ago following beta testing.
