Bloodborne dev working on new PS4-exclusive JRPG, says insider

Bloodborne developer From Software is reportedly working on a new PlayStation 4-exclusive project, according to well-known industry insider and NeoGAF poster, Verendus.

The tipster was posting on the popular message board (via wccftech) in response to comments that Sony’s current-generation has a distinct lack of RPGs in its native country.

"Next FS exclusive for PS4 currently in development is a Sony published first party title, like Bloodborne, and is a JRPG.

"There is another project in development in a similar context which is also a JRPG, and is going to be a Sony published title aka first party. Beyond that, I don’t want to delve into anything but it honestly only takes a little common sense to realise that Shu isn’t going to tell you what anyone’s up to because you happen to ask him a question. Nothing exists until it’s officially time for it to exist," said the post.

From Software obviously hasn’t announced anything regarding its next project as of yet, and is preparing for the release of Bloodborne’s hotly anticipated expansion, The Old Hunters. This will be released day-and-date with the Game of the Year Edition release of its critically acclaimed gothic dungeon crawler later this month.

Bloodborne was released on PS4 in March and hails from the same studio as the critically acclaimed Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls franchises. In addition to scoring rave reviews from critics, Bloodborne also proved to be a commercial success, selling over two million copies to date and debuting in second place on the U.K. All Format Chart in the process, while performing well across the pond, too. In fact, Sony has admitted that the game’s success took the platform holder by surprise.

Bloodborne was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, who also directed Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls. Despite only serving as Supervisor for the sequel, Miyazaki-san will return to the ‘Souls’ franchise with the upcoming PS4 and Xbox One title, Dark Souls 3 in 2016. Prior to that, he was best known for working on the long-running Armored Core franchise.
