Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release on September 12, 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, with its release date having been bumped forward from its original Sept. 23 launch. Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox, said yesterday that the decision to move the game’s launch forward wasn’t down to Grand Theft Auto VI or any other game, but rather simply because Borderlands 4 had progressed better than expected.
Elsewhere, Pitchford previously stated that Borderlands 4 is by far the ‘most open and free’ entry in the franchise to date, but wouldn’t go so far as calling it a true open-world game. In addition, the game’s senior project producer has revealed that the sequel boasts the ‘deepest and most diverse skill trees‘ of the series so far.
