Borderlands 4 Borderlands 4 Release Date Gearbox News PS5 Randy Pitchford

Borderlands 4 Release Date Change Was Not Down To GTA 6 Or Any Other Product, Says Randy Pitchford

Following news that the Borderlands 4 release date has been brought forward to September 12, 2025, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford has denied that the decision was influenced by other titles, particularly the impending release of Grand Theft Auto VI in Fall 2025.

Borderlands 4 shipping early is 100% the result of confidence in the game and development trajectory backed by actual tasks and bug find/fix rates. Our decision is literally 0% about any other product’s actual or theoretical launch date.

Take-Two, the parent company that owns Grand Theft Auto VI developer Rockstar Games and Gearbox, said last November that Borderlands 4 and GTA VI would not be released too close together. As such, it makes sense that the Borderlands 4 date wouldn’t have been moved to avoid the upcoming crime sequel, as they would have never been positioned to launch close together in the first place.

Grand Theft Auto VI has only attracted a Fall 2025 window so far, but Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has said the lack of a concrete date is due to the fact the company wants to maintain anticipation.
