Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has seemingly teased development of Borderlands 4 as the movie adaptation of the loot-shooter franchise turns in a disappointing box office debut.
As previously reported, the Borderlands movie saw poor reviews from critics and returned a less-than-stellar $16.5 million global box office debut for its opening weekend, which considering its budget of $115 million, puts it off to an extremely poor start.
In response, Pitchford had the following to say on X, with the ‘four’ an obvious reference to the next chapter in the popular series.

So what you’re saying is: You like what my friends and I do with our Borderlands video games even more than you like what some of the biggest and best cast and crew of film makers on the planet have done. I’m super flattered! We’re working extra hard four you on what’s next….
This isn’t the first time that Pitchford has teased the next instalment in the Borderlands franchise. Back in February, the Gearbox head honcho revealed during an interview with IGN that it is ‘clearly working on something‘ and that the mystery project is ‘greatest thing we’ve ever done.’
A new Borderlands game was confirmed as being in active development by Gearbox earlier this year, but is currently without a release date and hasn’t seen a full reveal.
