Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Pays Tribute To Series Co-Creator Vince Zampella

Activision’s upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has paid tribute to Vince Zampella, the co-creator of Call of Duty and co-founder of Infinity Ward who tragically died in a car accident in December last year.

Geoff Keighley noted in a post on X that the shooter’s credits features a separate screen that reads, “In memoriam – Vince Zampella.”

Zampella initially worked on the Medal of Honor franchise at Electronic Arts between 1999 — 2002, before going on to establish Infinity Ward with Grant Collier and Jason West. Activision helped set up the studio and later acquired Infinity Ward, with the first Call of Duty launching in 2003. After the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2009 however, West and Zampella were fired by Activision and founded Respawn, which was later snapped up by EA. Zampella eventually headed up DICE Los Angeles, which was later renamed Ripple Effect Studios, and was appointed head of the Battlefield series in 2021.

Zampella was heavily involved in the creation of Battlefield 6 to bring the series back on track, and in August 2025 described the then-upcoming shooter as a spiritual successor to Battlefield 3 and 4.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is due out for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S on October 23, 2026.
