After logging onto to Call of Duty World War 2 today, players have now discovered that the game has microtransactions.
Originally due to appear at the launch of Call of Duty World War 2, developer Sledgehammer Games wanted to delay the implementation of microtransactions until the game could properly support them.
Obviously, that time is now because upon logging onto the game, players are noticing that they have been gifted with 200 Call of Duty points.
Microtransactions are now live for Call of Duty World War 2
Via the in-game store, players can purchase Call of Duty points in quantities ranging from 200 to 13,000. In real money terms, players can expect to pay $2 for 200 Call of Duty points and $100 for 13,000 Call of Duty points.
You can see the full ratio of real life money to Call of Duty points below.
- 200 Call of Duty Points — $2/£2/$3.35
- 1,100 Call of Duty Points — $10/£8.39
- 2,400 Call of Duty Points — $20/£16.79
- 5,000 Call of Duty Points — $30/£35
- 9,500 Call of Duty Points — $75/£53
- 13,000 Call of Duty Points — $100/£85
As to what they can be used for on the battlefield, Call of Duty Points may be spent to get uncommon or rare supply drops that can be used for the game’s multiplayer modes. Special crates can also be purchased using Call of Duty Points for use in the Zombies mode too. These unlock special buffs and devastating attacks to destroy the undead horde.
The implementation of microtransactions in Call of Duty World War 2 comes off the heels of incredible sales for Activision’s shooter sequel. Call of Duty World War II smashed retail records as it clocked up more than $500 million in sales within the first three days of being on sale.
