Sledgehammer Games has provided some new details on the Call of Duty WW2 campaign during a dedicated livestream event last night.
Quizzed on the possibility of playable axis characters in the main storyline, the developer confirmed that the single-player will place emphasis on the exploits of U.S forces, offering a campaign that “follows the 1st Infantry Division and Allied effort. We feature a diverse and multinational cast, but no playable Axis characters.”
Of course, this does not preclude the option of axis soldiers being made playable in the Call of Duty WW2 multiplayer, though Sledgehammer has pledged that it wants to handle this in a respectful manner. Elsewhere, the studio confirmed that one of the major events in the game will be the Battle of the Bulge, which was one of the most significant battles during the Second World War.
Sledgehammer previously revealed new details on first-person shooter’s War Mode, which offers a series of battles that highlight the push-pull conflicts that both axis and allied forces frequently endured on European battlegrounds in the war. If you haven’t already done so, be sure to check out the first Call of Duty WW2 gameplay footage to see how the title is shaping up.
Call of Duty WW2 is due for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on November 3, 2017. The game is the first entry in the multi-million selling series to be set during the Second World War since 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War, with recent games having adopted a contemporary/futuristic setting. The game takes place during the latter stages of World War II, specifically during the years 1944-45 as allied forces steadily push back the Nazis throughout France, Belgium, and Germany.
