Camilla Luddington, the British actress who portrayed Lara Croft in Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, has bid farewell to the role following news that Alix Wilton Regan is taking over the part for the next chapter in the franchise.
The Game Awards 2025 confirmed that two new Tomb Raider games are currently in production: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the original 1996 genre-defining classic, and Tomb Raider Catalyst, a brand new outing that is set years after 2008’s Tomb Raider Underworld.
As is usually the case with a new era of Lara Croft, the role has been recast, with Regan now stepping into Lara’s hiking boots and wielding her trademark dual pistols. But first, Luddington had a few words to say on her time with the franchise as she passes the baton.
To join the list of Lara Crofts before me was an incredible honour and she will forever be a part of me. The Survivor Trilogy was a decade of adventure I will never ever forget. I could not be prouder of what we created. And as always, a new actress receives this incredible gift to step into the boots. 👏💫 So with that said- @alixwiltonregan .. if you’re ever in need of a 🏹 , I know the exact spot to look for one at Croft Manor. 😉“
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is going to be first out the door in 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and full reimagines the first Tomb Raider with jaw-dropping visuals and modern gameplay mechanics, while still honouring the spirit of the original. Tomb Raider Catalyst is set to follow in 2027, and sees Lara visiting Northern India.
Regan is no stranger to the world of video games, having voiced Samantha Traynor in Mass Effect 3, Aya in Assassin’s Creed Origins, Alt Cunningham in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and Augusta in Wuthering Waves among others.
