Michał Nowakowski, joint-CEO of CD Projekt RED, has revealed that an expansion for The Witcher IV is unlikely to happen, noting the ambitious nature of the new batch of games in the series would make it a difficult task – not to mention it’s looking to get three new games out in six years.
Speaking during its latest earnings call, Nowakowski was asked about possible expansions for the new series of Witcher games: “Given the very ambitious project pipeline, does the company see room for developing expansions for the new Witcher saga?”
“As you mentioned in the question, the plans are pretty ambitious. Specifically, it’s to release three Witcher games within a six-year period. It would be difficult, to be very honest, for us to add an expansion to the upcoming trilogy. This is where we are here and now with this particular issue,” he replied.
At this point The Witcher IV isn’t even finished development yet, so plans could change, but right now it appears that we shouldn’t get our hopes up for an expansions for the franchise going forward. Speaking of expansions, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s new slice of content, Songs of the Past, is scheduled to launch for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in 2027.
The Witcher IV has yet to attract a release date but CDPR has confirmed that it won’t be released until 2027 at the earliest. Back in March, Nowakowski revealed that the developer has taken on more than 220 staffers in the past year, with many of them involved in production of The Witcher IV.
