British developer Argonaut Games is officially back from the dead following its closure 20 years ago, and its first project is something gamers of a certain age have been clamouring for — Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remastered!
This may not come as a surprise to long-time fans, as Argonaut founder Jez San revealed in June last hear that a HD version of the much-loved platformer was in the early stages of development.
Croc was originally related for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1997 and has maintained something of a cult following over the past 27 years, and will now return to consoles and PC later this year. If you missed out on it first time around, Croc stars the eponymous crocodile as he embarks on a quest to rescue the Gobbos from the nefarious Baron Dante, spending most of his time whacking foes and boxes alike with his tail.
The Croc Remaster will feature the usual bells and whistles expected of a modern overhaul, including high-definition visuals, a modern control scheme, as well as the Crocipedia, a comprehensive digital museum featuring key development assets including design documents, concept art, animation tests, and more.

Argonaut Games co-CEO, Gary Sheinwald, commented:
I worked closely with Jez on the design and production of Starglider, Argonaut’s first big hit back in 1986, so to take up the mantle of relaunching Argonaut Games nearly four decades later brings me full circle, and we have further exciting announcements in the pipeline in the coming months.
Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remastered is due out on consoles and PC later this year, with a concrete release date yet to be nailed down.
