Cyberpunk 2077 Has Sold 35 Million Copies Worldwide Since Its Launch In December 2020

CD Projekt RED has revealed that sci-fi epic Cyberpunk 2077 has shifted 35 million copies globally since its troubled launch back in December 2020.

Speaking in a statement in wake of the milestone, Michał Nowakowski, joint-CEO of CD Projekt RED, commented:

We are very happy and satisfied with the fact that – despite the passage of time – Cyberpunk 2077 remains such a well performing title and continues to attract new players. Sales of the game have exceeded 35 million copies, which testifies to the franchise’s enduring power and enables us to be even more audacious about charting its future.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on December 10, 2020 but the console versions were plagued by numerous performance issues and bugs, which took months to fix with various post-launch updates. In total, CDPR spent around $125 million fixing the game alongside developing the game’s expansion, Phantom Liberty.

The native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Cyberpunk 2077 were released in 2022, and at this point the game was finally up and running in much better shape for home consoles, having benefited from numerous patches and performance improvements. Cyberpunk 2077 also graced Nintendo Switch 2 as a launch title in June 2025.

Looking ahead, CDPR is working on a full sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which as of May 2025 is currently in preproduction; the game was previously known as Project Orion and is now being referred to as simply Cyberpunk 2.
