CD Projekt RED’s upcoming open-world role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 is in an ‘advanced stage of development’ and is a license that will be worked on ‘for years to come’, the Polish developer has confirmed.
Divulged during an investor conference — which also saw the announcement that the Witcher series has sold a staggering 25 million units — CD Projekt RED’s co-CEO Adam Kiciński mentioned that Cyberpunk 2077, which hasn’t actually been formally revealed to the public yet, is in an ‘advanced stage of development’ but they [the developer] still needs plenty of time with it.
It’s worth bearing in mind that over 300 people are currently working on the project (3/4s of CD Projekt RED’s work force) and the Witcher 3 developer is still looking for people to come on board.
In a bid to calm investors who questioned the developer’s reasoning for not making the Witcher 4 to capitalize on interest, it was said that the Cyberpunk 2077 license would be one worked on ‘for years to come’.
Additionally, Kiciński smiled when asked what the period between the reveal and the announcement of the Cyberpunk 2077 release date would be and declined to answer the question. Hopefully we see a quick turnaround à la Fallout 4 or at the very least a Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay trailer to whet the whistle sooner rather than later.
Either way, with Witcher 3 and its expansions completely out of the way bar the release of Gwent later this year let’s hope that we see Cyberpunk 2077 revealed properly this year or early 2018.
Let’s face it, it probably won’t be in our PS4s until late 2018 at the earliest.
