Dead Island and Metal Gear Solid collide in effective trailer mashup

MGSV: The Phantom Pain Spoilers ahead!!

Dead Island and Metal Gear Solid V walked similar paths. With trailers getting people all excited before the final products drew dissent for feeling unfinished (albeit for quite different reasons), so it seems apt that mashing the two together in trailer form just feels right.

The trailer, created by tvdl, sees the events of The Phantom Pain’s ending played out in reverse as the melancholic piano tune from Dead Island’s infamous reveal trailer plays out. If you remember (which I’m sure you do), that Dead Island trailer also ran in reverse, with a zombified child going back up from the floor and into a hotel window above, eventually revealing how she ended up turning in what was an emotionally charged trailer. Here’s what the original trailer looked like. Hard to believe this was six years ago already.

Sadly, the game turned out to be something far less engaging, if still an enjoyable co-op zombie smack ‘em up. The Phantom Pain also failed to live up to the hopes of many, as the second half of the game, and its subsequent twist ending left fans cold, speculating whether the ongoing troubles between Konami and Kojima contributed to the game’s abrupt end, or if it was one of Kojima’s well-documented parables about the development process. A final word on the franchise that made his name.

Dead Island developer Techland also split from the franchise that put it on the map, the happy result of that departure was the rather good Dying Light, so here’s hoping Hideo can follow suit and wow us all over again with Death Stranding when it finally arrives on PS4.

Why I Can’t Go With You, Metal Gear

Now with Metal Gear out of Kojima’s hands, and currently sadly shuffling onto Dead Island’s turf, this trailer mix seems quite apt, and proves that the Dead Island trailer music goes quite well with almost anything. I wonder which will arrive first on PS4 sans creators? The troubled Dead Island 2? Or Metal Gear Solid 6? Perhaps some things are best left dead.

Thanks to NeoGaf member Foxxsoxx for highlighting the trailer.
