Bungie has outlined a number of changes it has applied to the Destiny 2 Crucible multiplayer, specifically the popular Control game mode.
As previously confirmed, the former Halo developer has made some dramatic shifts to the multiplayer experience for its shared-world shooter sequel, chief among which includes reducing the matches to 4v4. However, Control, which is essentially Destiny’s version of Capture the Flag, has also received some notable tweaks to the formula. Find out what’s new below.
Destiny 2 Control changes
- Number of teammates on a point no longer change how fast it captures.
- Point A and C begin the round captured, with one held by each team.
- A captured point no longer has to be neutralized, only recaptured.
- Capturing all points activates a “power play,” earning the advantaged team more points per kill
- Matches now last 8 minutes, instead of 12.
Control will also see the return of the No Mercy rule that was implemented prior to the launch of The Taken King two years ago, although it’ll receive a few tweaks to accommodate Destiny 2’s new Crucible template. Bungie hasn’t yet confirmed what other changes await the Destiny 2 multiplayer, although considering the original game came equipped with numerous modes, we imagine there will be plenty more shakeups in store.
Destiny 2 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, 2017, with a PC version following in October. The game’s narrative shifts gears from the Fallen-oriented antics of the original, instead focusing on a deadly Cabal unit known as The Red Legion, who lay waste to the Tower in a prolonged attack that cripples the Guardians’ safe haven. As a result, all your hard-earned loot and gear has been lost, though you’ll still be able to keep any cosmetic tweaks you’ve made to your character.
If you’re in the market for a new PS4 and fancy picking up Destiny 2, then you should probably invest in the recently announced Glacier White PS4 bundle, which features a copy of the highly anticipated alien shooter. While you’re at it, be sure to check out the new Destiny 2 hub, which even features a football pitch.
