Destiny 2 gameplay may ditch Light levels rumor

Bungie has potentially dropped its biggest Destiny 2 gameplay revelation yet, suggesting that the infamous Light system used to increase your Guardian’s level has been replaced in the much-anticipated sci-fi sequel.

This latest development comes via invitations sent out for the upcoming Destiny 2 livestream event on May 19, where we’ll get our first glimpse at the shared-world shooter in action. However, the invite offers what could be a vital clue about the direction Bungie is going with Destiny 2, welcoming players to ‘a world without light.’

Light, of course, plays a vital role in the Destiny universe, as it’s not only a source to level up in-game, but also fuels the Guardians’ powers and hails from the mysterious Traveler that overlooks the Last City. Don’t expect anything new to drop before the livestream event, however:

The gameplay premiere will be a memorable moment – the first time you see Guardians immersed in Destiny 2 action,” said Bungie. “Our focus right now is on making sure that livestream will be awesome, so we’ll hold fresh remarks about Destiny 2 until then. We still want to know what you’re thinking about. Keep expressing those curiosities, by all means. All we ask is that you don’t take it personally if we wait for the right moment to satisfy them."

Destiny 2 is scheduled for release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on September 8, 2017. The game takes place in the aftermath of a devastating attack on the Tower by a vicious Cabal unit, which results in the Guardian population having to strike back after losing all of their equipment and precious loot. As such, players will be able to transfer the aesthetic values of their Destiny characters over to the sequel, but won’t keep their gear. Oh, and in case you wondered, yes, Nolan North is back as the voice of Ghost.

Despite the impending launch of Destiny 2 however, Bungie has said that it has no plans to stop support for the original game anytime soon. Stay tuned for more Destiny 2 gameplay details as they become available.
