Bungie has detailed a brand new Destiny 2 PvP mode known as Survival, which forms part of the game’s Competitive multiplayer playlist.
According to the former Halo developer, Survival is something of a spiritual successor to Skirmish, which featured in the original Destiny and focused on small team play with an emphasis on reviving downed teammates.
Survival, however, features a team of 4v4 like the rest of the multiplayer modes in Destiny 2, although this time players share a pool of eight lives between them. The first team to deplete this pool of lives wins the round, with three rounds resulting in victory.
Survival also implements a few key features to ensure things are kept fair. For starters, teams will swap sides between rounds to prevent gamers from feeling that one position is more advantageous than the other. Aside from that, the new mode will see players scrapping it out for one Power Ammo drop that will spawn in a neutral, central location on the map.
Destiny 2 map introduces Altar of Flame
Elsewhere, Bungie also showcased a new PvP map known as Altar of Flame, which is located on Mercury. The architecture is a combination of the stone and Vex stylings seen in the Burning Shire, plus the decorative banners and candles seen in the Lighthouse.
Bungie confirmed that Survival and Altar of Flame will be available in Destiny 2 at launch. The game will arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, 2017, with a PC version launching in late October.
The Destiny 2 beta wrapped overnight for PS4 and Xbox One, which offered a look at the new Inverted Spire Strike, two Crucible matches, and the Homecoming mission.
