Bungie has revealed that the Destiny 2 beta is based on a much older build of the upcoming first-person shooter, and as a result many of the complaints directed at PvE weapon balancing have already been remedied for when the game ships this fall.
PvE weapon balancing annoys players
Fans have spent the last few days picking apart the beta, noting that Bungie’s apparent focus on balancing weapons in PvP has resulted in a lacklustre and arduous PvE experience, particularly when it comes to fighting powerful enemies, such as the boss in the Inverted Spire Strike.
Much of this has to do with the fact many of the original game’s trademark weapons, such as Shotguns and Sniper Rifles, are now lumped into the Power Weapons category, which are fueled by rare Power Ammo drops. However, speaking in its latest update, Bungie assured fans that these issues will no longer be present in the final build.
Bungie plans Destiny 2 weapon tweaks
“The PVE game tuning has changed pretty significantly since the Beta build was deployed. The nature of a Beta of this scale requires that it’s based off a build of the game that is now months old,” said Bungie’s Rob Englen. “So, in many cases, your feedback is helping us validate changes that were previously made based on internal feedback and playtesting.”
The developer also highlighted exactly how Destiny 2 will be more generous when it comes to dropping ammo.
“In addition to returning the drop rates, we built a system that guarantees power ammo drops for you and your Fireteam from certain enemies, giving power weapons a more reliable and predictable role in your arsenal,” he wrote.
In addition to the above, Bungie has also promised a number of other balance changes, including tweaks to “grenade effectiveness in PvE, Boss vitality, and weapon damage against non-player combatants.”
Destiny 2 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, 2017, with a PC version following in October.
