Bungie has announced that Shadow and Order, the next major expansion for Destiny 2, has been pushed to June 9, 2026, with the developer confirming it is “undergoing large revisions.” The expansion was originally pencilled in for release on March 3, the same week that Marathon is out.
Here’s the official statement from Bungie regarding the delay:
Our next Major Update, Destiny 2: Shadow and Order, is undergoing large revisions and will be delayed. This update is being changed and expanded to include sizable quality-of-life updates and as a result, will also be renamed. This update will now launch on June 9, 2026. We will provide exact details closer to release covering previously announced Weapon Tier Upgrading, but also additions like expanding Tiered Gear to all Raid and Dungeon activities, Pantheon 2.0, Tier 5 stats for Exotic Armors, and more.
Destiny 2 was originally released for PS4 and Xbox One in September 2017, with a PC version following the next month. Bungie concluded the main, decade-long narrative with the release of The Final Shape. A new story kicked off with the release of The Edge of Fate, although speaking during an interview last year, Bungie’s Tyson Green admitted the expansion didn’t quite deliver in terms of fan expectations.
Bungie has kept players engaged over the years with numerous expansions for Destiny 2, including Curse of Osiris, Warmind, Forsaken, Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, The Witch Queen, and Lightfall. Furthermore, the release of Shadowkeep in 2019 saw the launch of a free-to-play version of Destiny 2 known as Destiny 2: New Light, although additional content continues to remain paid-for.
