Bungie has confirmed that it’s been tinkering with new matchmaking settings in Destiny this week, hoping to reduce the ongoing issue with poor connection quality in The Crucible.
Speaking in a new update, Destiny’s Senior Designer, Derek Carroll, “When the new settings are applied, players at the extreme ends of the skill curve (you probably know who you are) should see shorter Matchmaking times. Connection quality is still the primary search criteria.
“The changes we’re implementing will make playlists more responsive to the overall composition of the player population. As Matchmaking times shorten, you may encounter players across a wider range of skill.”
Destiny will receive its fourth major expansion, Rise of Iron, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 20, 2016. Going forward, last-generation players of the shared-world shooter will be getting a reduced number of features as part of an August update.
Publisher Activision confirmed earlier this year that Destiny 2 will be released at some point in 2017, though presumably support for the original game will continue for a while.
In recent months, Bungie has been releasing time-based events to keep Destiny gamers entertained, such as the Sparrow Racing League, Festival of the Lost, and Crimson Days. April’s update also brought a number of new changes, including a fully revamped Prison of Elders mode.
