Bungie has announced that Destiny servers will be going offline for maintenance on May 17 ahead of the hotly anticipated Destiny 2 gameplay reveal.
Servers for the shared-world shooter will go down at 10.00am PST/5.00pm UTC and will last until 2.00pm PST/9.00pm UTC. During this time, Bungie.net and the Destiny companion app will not be available, and you will not be able to sign in to Destiny itself either.
Due to the impending Destiny 2 gameplay reveal the following day, there will not be a Destiny weekly reset either. Chances are that won’t be an issue however, as fans will probably be too busy tucking into the first footage of the sequel to worry about the latest Nightfall update. Fans of the original game needn’t worry though; Bungie has no plans to drop support for the game anytime soon.
Destiny 2 is scheduled for release on September 8 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One. The game takes place following a devastating attack on the Tower by a Cabal unit known as The Red Legion, forcing the Guardian population to flee their home and losing all their equipment in the process. As a result, players won’t be able to transfer their loot over to the sequel, although your Guardian’s appearance will remain in tact.
According to hints from Bungie, Destiny 2 may drop the now-infamous Light Level system that has been utilised for the original game for some time now. While details on the game’s new subclasses have yet to be revealed, fresh Destiny 2 merchandise from GameStop has hinted at the direction the sequel may be going in this respect.
