Much to delight of old-school Star Wars: Battlefront fans, developer DICE has today detailed the return of the core gameplay mode ‘Blast’ – a Team Deathmatch-style mode – for its upcoming reboot of the classic series.
As you’d expect, Blast is a 10-on-10 Team Deathmatch mode which will pit the Rebels against the Imperial faction on more close-quarter-focused maps, which themselves will be variations of the maps housed on the game. If you reach 100 kills or are on top of proceedings by the time the 10-minute limit subsides you’ll win. Simple, right?
It’s not just a matter of smaller maps, mind, there’s key differences tailored to specific modes. Speaking on the changes, DICE’s Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall had this to say:
“Say you’ve just played Walker Assault mode on Hoth and then switched to Blast, still on Hoth. Thanks to variations in lighting and time of day, you’ll definitely see a difference.”
In addition, given the fact that there’s no Heroes or Villains joining the fight nor are there any vehicles either, weapon pickups will prove imperative to victory.
“Whether you pick up a Droid™ scanning for nearby enemies or a turret that’ll control a zone for you, the pickups can really turn the tide of a Blast match,” said Brännvall. “They are not around every corner though, so keep your eyes peeled.”
All in all, the game’s shaping up well as we detailed in our E3 thoughts back in June.
