BioWare has revealed that Dragon Age: Inquisition’s delayed release facilitated the inclusion of multiple playable races.
The upcoming fantasy RPG has been confirmed for a fall 2014 release on current and next-generation formats, but this wasn’t made public until after the developer had decided to give the game more time in the oven.
“Because we moved the date we were able to bring it back, explained executive producer, Mark Darrah, during a chinwag with Game Informer. “We basically just had the time necessary to bring it back.”
Mike Laidlaw, Dragon Age series creative director, added that the decision was “100 per cent” based on user feedback, as well as what the team at BioWare wanted to see reinstated in the sequel.
“Why didn’t we bring it up?” Laidlaw said of the date change. “We wanted to make sure it was locked down; we wanted to make sure our homework was done so we could commit to it and people could, with absolute enthusiasm, get ready for elf or dwarf or whatever.”
BioWare recently confirmed that fan-favourite Morrigan will play a major role during Inquisition, but she won’t be a party member.
