If you’re looking to jump into Dragon’s Dogma 2 but haven’t played the original, then Capcom has some good news: You don’t need to worry, because the game’s protagonist has amnesia!
Speaking with GamesRadar, the game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno, revealed that while there are elements in the sequel that carry over from the original Dragon’s Dogma, there’s no need to have played the first game. The main character is suffering from amnesia, and therefor has no knowledge of what transpired previously.
“The game starts off with a main character who has lost their memory,” he said, adding that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will “have characters around you [explaining] things to get you up to speed. So even if this is your first time playing Dragon’s Dogma, you can safely dive in.”

Itsuno-san had previously talked about a hidden boss in the game that he feels players will probably miss entirely and beat the game without even know it’s there.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is pencilled in for release on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on March 22, 2024.
