Epic Games has revealed that it worked with format holder Sony for many years on the Unreal Engine 5, which was unveiled for the first time in a tech demo earlier this year running on the PS5.
Epic On Working With Sony For Unreal Engine 5, PS5
Speaking during the latest issue of EDGE magazine, Tim Sweeney, the CEO and founder of Epic Games, revealed how both companies had been working for three-four years on the new technology, with Sony’s Mark Cerny discussing about what would be possible with next-generation hardware.
It was three or four years ago at least when we started to talk with Mark Cerny about possibilities for the next generation.
Sweeney was also very complimentary about the PS5 itself, which wish hardly surprising as he’s always heaped praise on the machine in the past.
Sony really did a fantastic job of implementing a new platform around that realisation that storage could be revolutionised. PlayStation 5 is built not only on a huge body of flash memory, but also a very high bandwidth and low latency framework for accessing it, and for getting it to wherever you need for any type of work.
