David O’ Reilly, a former Rockstar Games environmental artist, has told Kiwi Talkz that he’s hyped to see the next Grand Theft Auto VI trailer like everyone else, although noted that when it comes to trailers, the final product won’t necessarily look exactly how you see it ahead of release.
“I can’t wait for the next trailer too, all that stuff I have no idea about, the characterization, seeing that city all fleshed out so much more than when I’d last wandered it,” said O’ Reilly, who worked on titles including Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto V and GTA VI during his time at Rockstar. However, he noted that when making trailers, specific areas are going to get ‘madly polished’ while others where the camera isn’t focussed will not.
When you make a trailer, they look at where the camera’s going to be, and that view is getting madly polished. Whereas everything that’s not in that view is not getting madly polished yet. The whole world doesn’t look like that. You focus on the areas of the trailer.
With GTA 6, people are like, ‘What’s the story?’ And I’m like, ‘I’ve no idea, dude, I don’t know.’ Because I worked on it for five years, but I have no idea about the storyline, other than I knew it had two characters, and that was the extent of my knowledge.
Grand Theft Auto VI is pencilled in for a November 19, 2026 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Late last month, a YouTuber took the time to figure out how much Rockstar has likely spent on developing GTA VI, coming to a figure of over two billion dollars. Back in February 2026, Take-Two revealed in its latest financial briefing that marketing for GTA VI is expected to get underway in Summer 2026, so it won’t be too long before we (hopefully) see more of the title.
